Per-diddle
Stooping,
I take a short step inside;
curving my body to a sitting position.
Taking a short glance over my left shoulder,
I reach for the buckle and secure it around myself,
as to be in the ‘click it or ticket’ position. Reaching upward,
with my right hand,
I arrange the mirror to see the lights
of the on coming ‘night-time’ traffic.
Feeling, as safe as I can
possibly be in my little Ford Focus,
I turn the key;
put the gear into drive,
place my foot on the gas,
and slowly back out of the drive
leading me away from the house in the country.
Traveling along at the normal speed
of 45mph on those back country roads, everything is A-OK
as I look around to see if
there are any little green eyes staring at me
from aside of the road.
Turning onto State High Way 36,
I am greeted by the monster
that has been awaiting me….
A one-eyed vehicle is coming at me
@ high rate speed.
Of course, he is in the other lane,
but the single light is all I see
and I am taken to a dream
I’ve had sometime in the night.
OH God! The light!
It is a Per-diddle
and I cannot escape
the intensity of it’s light!
My eyes are drawn
to the one-eyed monster
and I feel myself being
pulled to the left hand lane .
Suddenly I am reminded that I am not asleep.
I am wide awake
and this is the here and now.
I quickly turn my wheel back
toward the right hand side
and coast along the highway
@ a little less that 55mph,
trying to make my way back home.
What a scare! .
