Chatting with a ghost

Poem Commentary

It seems that the older I get the younger people are living this earth. Just since January I have lost 3 friends who were just too young to leave. Last year I lost a brother and several friends as well. In 2006, I lost my mother, and several other family members and I miss them all so very much. this is a poem that has been a long time in the making and here it is.

Chatting with a ghost

Memories of your existance
move slowly 'cross my mind.....
I never know from day to day
what happiness I will find
of moments spent
talking, laughing,and crying
that will cover this expansive space,
but I know, from daily journeys here
that a smile will coss my face.

The pictures hanging
on my walls
or on pages in a book
don't really bring you justice,
it takes more than just a look
to see what joy
just knowing you
was brought into my days
and missing you intensifies
when the sun pulls in its rays.

I miss you more
than you could ever know
and much more than I can express
But knowing you, was loving you;
this I proudly confess.

One day I hope we'll meet again
when Heaven opens her doors
and there we will reacquaint ourselves
on golden glistening shores.

Written from strong emotion and it shows. Very nicely pieced together. There is never any wrong when it comes to writing from the heart. I guess there is only one way for you to go and that's up, right? Great poem.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
