Prodding, trodding, racing, screaming, the sounds of Leviathan steel,

Screeching, preaching, singing, teaching, the shrill stopping of sliding train wheels,

    Forward, onward, upward, skyscrapers skyward,

Jonah in the belly of the whale,

    New Yorkers in the subway,

thud, thud, thud, rush rush, rush,

    ouch! Excuse! Don't push! Hush!

The hustle, the bustle, the running, the chasing,

The thud of early morning footsteps,

    New York’s awake,

Whose life is at stake in the stampede of I’m late, I’m late

    Too hasty was my coffee,

    Too little slept the night,

    A corporate-blur in a rush hour fight.
