REVERSE
The gulps of air I took
To steady my nerves,
Now they rush out of my mouth,
In reverse.
The tears that dripped from,
My brown eyes.
Slide back up my cheeks.
Their path revised.
The shocking words asking;
“What did I do wrong?”
Now ring in my ears,
As a heartbreaking song.
My hands that reached out for you.
To hold me once again.
Fall to my sides
Wondering how this all began.
My shoulders slumped in defeat.
Asking you again,
To say those words you repeat.
My eyes,
Closed in resignation.
Knowing you’ll no longer be there.
My eyes opened wide in shock,
And despair.
Realization dawning,
That you no longer care.
The pain that shows on my face.
The feeling of my heart,
Starting to race.
The look in your eyes .
The passion fading away.
With regret in your voice,
You simply say;
I still love you,
I’m just not “in” love with you.
It’s not you,
It’s me.
It’s over.
