LIFE GETS IN THE WAY
Today;
I heard the news.
In but a blink,
Of an eye.
You were taken.
We were left to;
Question why?
How quickly;
Your time had come.
Erased from this life;
Much too young.
I had just been;
Thinking of you,
Yesterday.
But then I got busy;
Life got in the way.
I meant to call and ask;
How things were going,
For you.
But then the doorbell rang;
And I had dishes to do.
The next day;
You crossed my mind,
Again.
What were the last words we shared;
My friend?
Did we part with a hug;
And a happy thought?
Or in this chaotic life;
Were we caught?
Did we let the chance;
slip away?
Did we let life;
Get in the way?
We always shared;
A special bond.
Will my last memories of you;
Be fond?
So before the next time;
Your friend,
Walks away.
Don't let life;
Get in the way.
Make sure they know;
How you feel.
Make the memories;
Lasting and real.
