Mary Jane
Don't put down the candle that illuminates the sky.
Don't say your name is not Mary Jane.
I've seen you, I knew you.
But when I did, my vision was blurred by the icy sheets of rain.
This cabin that encloses us in wood, traps us in a fight--
I know it cannot hold back the fire of the raging suns.
I know it cannot keep the acid rain from burning our promises.
Do you feel the floor shaking beneath our feet?
Do you hear the tremble of my uneven breathing?
No.
You are too busy trying to deceive me,
Searching my soul for the memories you say are absent.
Our laughs and conversations from the past--
They echo in my mind,
Reinforcing the truth you try to hide.
Endless moments pass as you ignore my every word,
My every step, every plea.
Do you hear my breath, Mary Jane?
No.
Of course not.
