Ice Chamber
A stone carved into a heart,
This hole in your chest will be filled.
This mere rock will not lead you,
just penetrate the folds of life.
Filling the hole will not mend it,
cannot replace the pulsing beat of life you once carried.
Your chest will not rise and fall;
a stone cannot push warm blood against your skin,
or constrict your chest with emotion.
“Where has your soul gone?” I may ask.
“Why do you not bleed when I cut you?
Why do your eyes remain empty of tears
When the death of one meets your gaze?
I know why. You have placed
your soul in a cage of ice,
A chamber where air will freeze
in your lungs. Medication to make a heart numb.
