Gallows Tree

Sometimes I feel like the gallows tree with people hanging all over me The only sound the creak of hemp bodies silent, dangling cold and limp What aspirations can I own and keep how may I rest in peaceful sleep A gnarled and crooked gallows tree with people hanging all over me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
