Couplet
A couplet is a joy to read and write,
each duet fills a need, plants a seed.
Two by two they add into poetic verse
that makes you mad, sometimes glad.
You can’t control a couplet like a dog,
no more than leash a frog, bind a bird.
You see, couplets tell a spurt of thought,
or form quadruplets, when there’s more
than one, or septuplets just for fun, and
sometimes tell a tale of tragedy and fate.
God, I would hate to see them go and be
archaic like the buffalo and simplicity.
