Tender mercy

Tender mercy

All alone, I am

mommy’s forever asleep

no daddy to call my own

tender minded innocence

lost and scared of life

This big, big world before me

who’ll hold my hand

so that I don’t fall off?

do I take the ride from the candy man?

who will tell me what to do?

The pain of loneliness is deep

its weight is so hard to bear

who’ll comfort me from nightmares?

oh, just to have the covers pulled up

and a warm kiss goodnight!

I pray each night through my tears

that stain my pretty little gown

I'm falling down into the darkness

no sure hands grasp my trembling ones

Mommy, can you hear me scream?

do my cries echo to your heart?

I long to join you, mommy dear

to follow you in death is better

than to be left here alone in life.
