    Poem Commentary

    This was what life was like the first week I gave up the bottle almost six years ago.

    Orientation

     What day is it?

    What time is it?

    Am I deceased or living?

    I have got to know
    What's going on.

    Looking out the window

    And I'm looking at the calender...

    Putting my hand onto my eye,
    And it is open.
    I must be awake.

    I looked into the mirror
    Someone's there.
    There is no one else in here.
    Must be me.

    There is a woman on my drivers license
    It says she can drive.
    When is it time to go?
    Cause I can't miss my meeting.

    A simply interest perspective on the in-balance emotions can drag us through: forms, thoughts, pauses, confusion — the strangeness of not knowing who we are looking at in the mirror; only to know: the burial awaits us.
