Nighttime
The darkness, like all darkness,
Is just something that is there
Not something you can look at,
But still, people stare
And sounds, usually muffled
Echoe through the air
Tossing, turning, through the night
The peace just slowly tears
Dreams repeat, one by one,
Wanting to be heard
But what you think is there, you think is real,
Has never really occurred
And the voices of the people
That you know, you are assured,
Break away pervasive fear
But, again, you are still lured
"I can't sleep"
Say children, with teddy bears clutched to their chest
The mother sighs, closing her eyes
"Just attempt to rest"
But, as soon as feet enter the room
The protective spell the the mother cast
Even when you're older,
Is lost, away, at best
And all the worries, fears, and cries
Come out, to get the ones awake
No mercy, just with gripping claws
Sweet dreams they ruthlessly take
So, echoes in our minds...
'Is sleeping a mistake?
I can't rely on empty words.
I cannot rest 'till day'
Is just something that is there
Not something you can look at,
But still, people stare
And sounds, usually muffled
Echoe through the air
Tossing, turning, through the night
The peace just slowly tears
Dreams repeat, one by one,
Wanting to be heard
But what you think is there, you think is real,
Has never really occurred
And the voices of the people
That you know, you are assured,
Break away pervasive fear
But, again, you are still lured
"I can't sleep"
Say children, with teddy bears clutched to their chest
The mother sighs, closing her eyes
"Just attempt to rest"
But, as soon as feet enter the room
The protective spell the the mother cast
Even when you're older,
Is lost, away, at best
And all the worries, fears, and cries
Come out, to get the ones awake
No mercy, just with gripping claws
Sweet dreams they ruthlessly take
So, echoes in our minds...
'Is sleeping a mistake?
I can't rely on empty words.
I cannot rest 'till day'
