    Banished

    I am not welcome
In a place that is my own
I am cast out, thrown out
Only my room in which to roam

But, I may not have smiles
    I may not have joy
I may not stay for a while
When I can leave, I will not be coy

    I will run, run away,
Before I get cast out again,
    From my past mistakes.
No hands for me to lend.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
