Poem Commentary

This is a kind of cute poem that randomly came to me. I think it's my most little-kid-ish.

As Of Today

Today,
As you have decided
The day will not turn blue
It will instead turn yellow,
As that would better suit you

Today,
As you have announced
The sun will stay all day
Not turning or setting or letting water spill
It will be here today

Today,
As you have ordered
The grass will not sway
Since, of course, it should stay still
"Just sit there, grass, and lay!"

Today,
As you have demanded
All souls will turn to you
Serving, pleasing, entertaining
"What can I do for you?"

Today,
It is obvious
That it is all about you.
But, I cannot stand this!
I must have a day too!

Tomorrow,
The grass is allowed to sway.
The sun may do what it pleases.
The sky may be blue.
Because, since I have tomorrow,
I'm making up for today!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
