    Shades of Gray

Your Black I’m White and we’re tight

    like day and night

Both shades of gray one dark one light

grew up cruel together, cut school lords of misrule together

copped trees together, Had mommies on their knees together

been from heaven to hell together, shared a cell together

Mano y mano forever, together in whatever, we would endeavor

Against whomever, we stood together, Us you could not severe

When cut we bled together, wherever whenever together "however"

I’ve been betrayed, equal rights what a charade, Now who’s the slave

Even though I got a higher grade, you got the job now your paid

Cause you where darker by two shades, you now have a City trade

Your Black I’m White and we’re tight

    like day and night

Both shades of gray one dark one light

Said your fore fathers where slaves, that’s why they gave you the grade

I knew your four fathers they all had a trade, so why the government aid

My dad was the real slave, To a crack pipes blaze, where’s my aid crusade

So don’t play yourself I know the score, remember I lived right next door

Reparations "for what" the only cotton you picked was in your drawers

I’m not hating love you to my core, I know your just trying to get yours

But you’re the one that was cuddled, I’m living the struggle, my whole life befuddled

Stepping in blood from tussles, living shuttle to shuttle, while mom works hustles

I’m the one sleeping on floors and now they’re trying to take mine to give you yours

Your Black I’m White and we’re tight

    like day and night

Both shades of gray one dark one light

Affirmative action so you out scored me by a fraction, to my dissatisfaction

Have to pay for someone else’s action, But I wasn’t party to the transaction

I’m not the faction, can’t understand my bitter reaction, say it’s a racist infraction

Reparation, reverse discrimination, segregation, supposed to be an Equal Nation.

No justification, where’s my free vacation, Should have told them I was Haitian

Reparation, should be for individual deprivation of all persuasion, not denomination

Brother I understand your fight, but I’m not the cause of your plight

Equal rights not when your poor and white, I have to pay for someone else’s racist blight,

Cause your black and I’m white that’s not right, who is going to speak out about my fight

Your Black I’m White and we’re tight

    like day and night

Both shades of gray one dark one light

Fuck it anyway I wonder if affirmative action works in the NBA, I could get a job with M. J.

Cause there’s not enough white guys shooting the J ,But I think you have to know how to play

It’s the best man that win’s let the chips fall where they may. I wish the world worked that way.

Brother just wanted you to see it from my eyes, see what’s its like to be in my hide

Take a walk on the wild side, live a day on the white side, maybe you could stem the tide

Set aside your black pride, make this truly an equal ride, that’s why Lincoln and King died.

Your Black I’m White and we’re tight

    like day and night

Both shades of gray one dark one light

Friends until we stand in Gods light, I’ll aid your blight

Don’t give up keep up the fight, it’s going to be alright

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
