Brittany

Your sixteen and sweet they say you’ll be, but you’ve always been sweet to me.

Can’t believe the young woman I see, is the little girl who bounced on my knee.

Looked in your eyes before you could see, wished to be the dad I needed to be.

Excited and scared at Gods gift to me, afraid I’d let you down sweetpea.

Watched you grow my heir, proudly walking on air, elegantly fair with little hair.

See my baby in the chair, the one held with tender care, in this young ladies glare.

Know you feel I wasn’t there, but I’ve always cared, why all the hate and despair.

War against you I never declared, so answer my prayer, rid me of this cross I bear.

I’m your biggest fan, I know you can be more than you think you can.

Expect the best you can, from life’s plan, I loved you before yours began.

Don’t accept less than, something of me in you and you in me, your old man.

Stick to your game plan, even without you I’m with you, your from my clan.

Don’t doubt who you’ll be, you’re meant for great things, believe as I believe in thee.

Don’t be afraid to dream like a Queen, face your fears and see, the crown in your life to be.

Reach farther than I can see, hold on to your dream, take your one shot to be all you can be.

These times, the best you’ll see, but everything will not be the way you foresee it to be.

Like fighting traffic, to get a car length closer to nowhere, then you get a flat no spare.

That’s life it’s not fair, with patience you’ll get there, slow and steady with a prayer.

Each day in stride don’t despair, being true to self, worth more than being a millionaire. I’ve been there, you’ll taste sweat and tears be prepared, life can give you a scare .

Standing at a crossroad in life, childhood to womanhood, I feel your strife.

These are the years in life, a girl turns into the woman she’ll be for life.

Get your own before becoming a wife, don’t make the mistake we made in life.

Divorce cuts like a knife, this you know, cause your mom was once my wife.

Find yourself before another, the world is yours to explore and discover.

Love you like your mother, I’ll stand by you on the road you choose to uncover.

Enjoy this day like no other, sixteen just once, this number you’ll never rediscover.

I’ll pray every night as I slip under cover, God guide and protect her, cause I love her .

Love always

Dad

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
