Perfect Prayer

Poem Commentary

This poem is just to let others know what is available from God for us to utilize in our prayer life. Because sometimes we don't know what to pray for, so this is our way to interceed for others, because this is what Christ does for us read Romans chapter 8 sometime Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: (our prayer life) for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.

Perfect Prayer

Perfect Prayer

Sometimes in the middle of the night

I am awakened by a heart light

No not like the one in the movie “E. T.”

Not at all, it was just that I knew there was a need

Not knowing what it was or who it was for

I just spoke in tongues and I know God opened the door

For the need to be met whether near or far

But this I did not know, and I was not wishing on a star

For this is what God gave on the day of Pentecost

To help those out there who may be lost

It is perfect prayer beyond my understanding

For the words I do not know, but God is listening

When my eyes get to closing and my heart is at rest

I know that whatever the need was perfect prayer was best

The desire is gone for I have given it to the Father

I say a thankful prayer to my Heavenly Father

Now time to get back to sleep to get ready for the new day

Up early as usual to read God’s Word and yes to pray

With my understanding and perfect prayer too

Lifting up to God love letters for each of you

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
