He gave up his life
He hung there six hours to be
Badly beaten for you and for me
The spike through his feet and the hands above his head
Any other man surely would have already been dead
Arrested on Monday, crucified on Wednesday
So many things happened, to hard to say
40 hours of torture and mental anguish
But there was joy set before him, God’s true wish
Not a bone broken from all of the beatings
Whips with metal and bone pulled away at his skin
Not recognizable any more with eyes he they did scan
With hurtful tears Pilot declared “behold the man”
When the sixth hour was finally come
God’s will and purpose finally done
He cried with a loud voice
Words of his free will choice
He commended unto his Father God his spirit
Blood shed for all of us every little bit
Now heart open, normal within
Able now to carry our sin
They mocked him, scourged him
Beat and whipped, unjustly tried him
Dragged him to Calvary, Simon behind
Ordered to carry the cross of a man who was one of a kind
Hanging there still loving and caring
Asking his Father to forgive there ignorant action
Finally the time came; he saith “I thirst”
They tried to take it, but he gave up his life first
Now raised, ascended and seated above
He gave it up because he so loved
Now sitting at Gods right hand, mediating and interceding alone
Awaiting these words “time to go and bring your brothers and sisters home”
So sit there and think hard and long
Wondering why some of us are singing a whole new song
Make him Lord of your life and be set free
Death having no more power over you and me
Having God’s gift living within
Knowing His will gives our lives a whole new thrill
Believing is the key to getting all of this done
Because of all that was done by God’s only begotten son.
