    Our Days in Beirut

As time goes by I keep thinking of you
Of days gone by, and days that have to come
Of Years we roamed the world with joy and hope
Which I cherish till one day I succumb

Do you remember Beirut and the shore
And Mount Sennin, majestic with its snow?
And lush green forests embracing the sea
And clouds above, that drop their rain and go?

We used to walk, like love birds in the trees
The wind makes us get closer to feel warm
While within you and me Nature unfolds
moments of joy and passion like a storm

Beirut, the charming city of the East
Its aura gives the dream of lasting peace
In its streets I'm a child returning home
Where compassion and love adorn the trees

In every corner of its AUB*
I held you in my arms, sweet as a rose
I felt I owned the World by owing you
Your fragrance still fills my heart and my nose

To you, commitments I made I fulfilled
And we shared joy and sadness at all times
You always went one step ahead of me
In your devotion, love and compromise

Oh! how much I long for those happy days
Will they ever come back? will they return?
I hear those happy years laughing at me
Saying: how can that be? don't dream in vain

Despite Autumn, Facts of Life and of Time
My heart is still young, though hair is turning gray
It's young because of you, and only you
I love life through your love in every way

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
