    Opportunity Lost

My friend does not leave home at all
Even to go to Jeddah Mall
He is addicted to the TV
Beyond its screen he doesn't see
He is a poet and a scribe
At Jeddah Mall lots to describe
While sipping coffee with keen looks
At pretty girls he'll cast his hooks
    A poem, later, he'll compose
Like video camera, zoomed too close !

I tried to have him leave his shell
Why he was stubborn? I can't tell
I said I'd be his host all day
And record all verse he would say
    Like precious jewels to Mankind
With all the beauty one can find
He looked at me and turned me down
I felt I was about to drown
How could he deny me that fun?
Like him, amusing, I find none!!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
