    Me

As a child I had my parents that
tried to teach me something valuable.
I had them, but all I needed was me.

As a girl in school holding a C average,
Knowing I could carry an A going for my family.
I had them, but all I needed was me.

As a teen parent I look forward to
changing diapers and a check in the mail.
I had them, but all I needed was me.

As a lady with a lump in my breast,
It was a challenge, I was afraid of me.
I had everybody there for me.
I had them but, all I needed was me.

As a woman with a job supporting my
family, an education, a love for a lot of
people, but best of all, a love for me.
Learning to love myself was the hardest
thing I had to do. It is my biggest
success to except me for me.
I am so glad I finally have me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
