Lucky
His name is Lucky and he lives on the streets
He is cautious of each new creature he meets
He has coal black hair and snowy white teeth
And a fearless heart beating loudly beneath
He sleeps under the boardwalk down by the docks
By day he wanders the alleys; the same old crumbling blocks
Searching always searching through each deserted lot
Finding food scarce and a real chancy long shot
He’s a tough looking dude so don’t expect him to kowtow
And all the ladies think he’s the real cat’s meow
All the boys step aside when he comes ambling by
But all seek him out as a friend and ally
Well on a warm night in June under a bright full moon
A new dude arrives behind O’Toole’s saloon
He’s big and brawny and looks real mean
And he tries enticing the ladies with a smelly old sardine
Now Lucky gets word that this dude’s on the prowl
And he’s sure that his intentions are nothing but foul
He quickly makes his way to the back of O’Toole’s
He’s out to teach this intruder the rules
He sizes up the newcomer and decides on a frontal attack
He charges and leaps - landing squarely on the dudes back
What followed one could hardly call fair
As Lucky throttled him into total and utter disrepair
The intruder was last seen climbing the back fence at the bar
Onlookers roared their approval and made Lucky the night’s star
And then when Lucky wolfed down the smelly sardine
The onlookers all let out a most raucous scream
Those nearby trying to sleep woke upon hearing the uproar
Ran to their windows looking down at the rear of the store
They cursed and they yelled screaming “all of you scat”
But the crowd went right on howling for Lucky the homeless black cat
So just remember my friends if you’re out on Halloween
And the howling begins from places unseen
Don’t be alarmed just go on with your tricks and your treats
It’s probably just old Lucky still prowling the streets
