    Poem Commentary

A poem inspired by WordSlinger's latest writes on OP

    The Path of Life

My journey down the path of life has

    seen miracles beyond comprehension

My path has also brought me face to face

    with horrors that defy explanation

For every great tree that towers on high

    and caresses the ancient sky

    Another lies fallen and broken

in spite of the resounding hue and cry.

My path has taken me down rivers and streams

that breathe life into the land’s many fruits

But just beyond the next bend in its journey

the river gives way to waste that poisons its roots

My path could have been richer and fuller

were it not for man’s greed and warring nature

But for whatever reason that was not meant to be

as man persists in contaminating our future

I dream of a world where we can live in harmony

And peace and beauty fill the hearts of all

So I will continue to search as my spirit takes flight

For a place far from man’s destructive beck and call

I too dream of harmony and have felt its touch. It will not be found, however; with our two eyes but only with the single eye of the soul.

We must stand for what is right and not give up the fight-without money, or any worldly assets, we, as poets can and should at least write for our good Mother-in her defense-You my friend are a steward for her by penning such eloquent cries for mercy on her!! Namaste...Earthly

Thank you. If we do not stand for her who will?

Certainly this is our hope - Yet I think it has been the hope of all, for eons. Still you said it well - you carry us with you.

Charlie, I am with you on this one. The search is on for a cleaner more protected earth and you stated this splendidly in a poem that laments what we are losing every day. ginga

    Thank you very much.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
