Memories
Someday my stay on this earth will end
And my body will return to dust
And wherever my soul may journey
In one hope I have trust
I pray that my memories will accompany me
Providing visions of days past
The sun on high the sky the sea
All perfectly recast
My loves caress, soft words exchanged
A baby’s laugh with glee
A puppy’s bark. A loon’s sweet song
A majestic great oak tree
A summer breeze. A raindrop’s sound.
The whisper of rustling leaves
An old women’s smile. The roar of thunder
The sights and sounds perceived.
Life passes as drifting clouds before our eyes
Intertwined with happiness and grief
Those things worth remembering
Seeming often times too brief
But I will cherish my memories
As they are mine and mine alone
They are the treasures of a life lived
Though the future remains unknown
So as I tire I hold them close
In fear they might take flight
I wait to share them in a distant place
Where loved ones reunite
