The Future

The Future

I wish that I could know you with your misfortunes and satisfaction.

I wish that I could know you: the result of all of my actions.

I wish that I could know you and see my present mistakes.

I wish that I could know you and avoid all of your heartaches.

I wish that I could know you and see from how far you'll come.

I wish that I could know you and see from which things to run.

I wish that I could know you and I would know the end of my days.

I wish that I could know you and I'd know how to amend my ways.

I wish that I could know you but to know you is not my job.

To know you is to charge you and that belongs to God.

Good poem. I love poems that talk from the perspective of an object, someone other than ourselves, or some other thing - in this case, the future. It always makes them more interesting.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
