    Hopelessly Devoted

i lay in bed each night
    with him by my side
this gold band on my finger
    painful regrets i keep inside

he tells me all is okay
he lives in a land of fantasy
    i wasn't ready to say i do
i said yes for him not me

a small tear rolls down my cheek
    as i ask myself why
is this the way i want to live
    until the day i die

my love for him leaves me blind
forced to see through his eyes
i know he loves me with all his heart
i see it when he cries

am i ready to settle down yet
have i seen all there is to see
is there anything else i wanted to do
am i ready to give up being free

    marriage is a funny thing
it can easily go either way
it will work if you want it to
you just have to take it day by day

the answers will all come in time
till then i must give it a shot
so here i come i'm mrs. vaughan
whether i like it or not

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
