Down to my last

Down to my last

I was
Down to my last
Feelins last like a bad grade
12 years old never told
that I could bounce back

standing on the notion
I could follow pops down his tracks
but lost my way in philly blunts and
multiple chronic sacks

can I trust myself to pimpin'?
try my hand at the game
chopped a couple thangs
but realized it wasn’t my thang

for each and every life lesson
it's one told in reverse
can I bless the microphone
without havin to curse?

if lovin the money
proves me wrong then I don’t want to be right
I told my heart jack daniels
Cried alone at night

I take for granted that the fact
my wife is in the game with me
I told the truth to the gods
I aint know I had it in me.

Probable cause to end a dynasty
That never got started
I swear to God
It's my own people
That’s the most cold hearted.

Stop and see my man poke
Cuzz whenever I pass
Never again will I broke
straight down to my last

Actually this looks a hell of a lot better than what I knew at ten. Must be the similar brick in the building. I would have felt like a princess living here.

Good good good as I use to say to my students. So real and heartfelt. It's the honesty that gives your poetry it's edge. By the way that picture reminds me of the Chicago I escaped when I was 10. I guess the world has a lot of those places.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
