took you for granted

    took you for granted

    they say that its
    better to love and lost
    than never
    loved at all

    your the one
who was there to catch me
    when I was about
    to fall

    gave me your heart
    when I was squarely
    focused just
    on myself

    It's because of you
    I put the Jack
    Daniels back
    on the shelf

I used to run the streets
    at night
    when I should
    have been home

    making secret
    calls on my cellular
    phone

    trying to convince
    myself
    that I was justified

    I looked right
    in your face
    and told you
    lie after lie

    I have the nerve
    to act surprised
    when I found
    you gone

    and now I have
    nothing left
    excepts my words
    in a song

    baby, please take
    me back I hope you
    understand it

    Never again in life
will I take you for granted

Beautiful Poignant offering. I am glad she took you back. This well writtem poem is filled with a lot of rhythm and a good word choice. you were true to your theme. very nice writing.

So, did she? Sounds like you have done some things in your life you arent too proud of but I hope you have found some peace within yourself. Forgiving ourselves is the hardest thing but must be done before we can expect others to forgive.

she took me back for sure. I didn't deserve it at the time but she had me a better man.

I meant to say she made me a better man. Not she had me a better man.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
