The moons mercy

The moons mercy

Quiet voices call out from within,
Tears stained black as blood fall from unseeing eyes.
The night holds me in her soft gaze and lays me down to sleep,
But there is no sleep,
Only dreams of things forgotten,
things forsaken.

A pale moon kisses the sky and fades away,
Leaving me alone in the night.
I beg the stars for answers,
Where has my love gone?
Silence is there only answer.

I hold you once more,
beneath a moon the lurid color of blood stained wine.
I wipe the tears from a cheek i once kissed,
and breath in the fragrince of jasmine blossomed in night.

Slowly I fall to my knees,
Clinging to a dream I know is no more.
I still feel your soft skin beneath my fingers,
I still look up into your soft eyes.

I know now and forever,
This is but a comfort the night offers her child,
A illusion crafted for my broken hopes and shattered heart,
But I can not let you go.

The heavens weep around us as you sing to me,
The world its self hides out of respect for such a voice.
Alas the cruel sun has no respect for dead loves,
Or songs sung in the night.

Alone once more I watch you fade away in the rising suns light,
I cry out ,
But not even the moon can grant her mercy to me now.
So alone I wait hiding within my self ,
for the sun to set and the moons mercy once more,
To give me back the dreams I have lost,
And love I can not forsake

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
