    The Face

    The Face

    of pain
    expresses an element
    of numbness--
    And its lack
    therefore
    is misread
    as rudeness
    by the
    self-absorbed
    who are
    unable to discern
    between
    a pained stare
    and insolence.
    Offense,
    once taken,
    slams the heart
    shut, closing
    any opening
    of friendship
    and love.

Jaycee, this contains such a powerful metaphor. You have a winning piece here. It manages to reach the reader in a very special way! Great job!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
