killing the messenger

killing the messenger

teeth sink into fleshy thoughts
ripping my soul into little parts
damned by words not yet uttered
gagging, choking on letters sputtered
i am murdered here in front of you
for speaking of what is offensive and true

I agree that if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. If I don't agree then just walk away.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
