Poem Commentary

There's so many things people hear bout in this world. Not many taking the time to see it through those that are hurtings veiw. And as I sit down one day thinking bout all the different people deal with when having a loved one in the military it got me thinking... Then next thing I knew I had sereval poems wrote... Here is one of them....

Just Like Mom....

I always dreams of wearing
the same uniform as mom
and dad. As I lay here see
dad's face as the tears fall
down, seeing me in uniform
going to war just like mom
did. I can still hear dad say
'You make me proud son, if
your mom was here she would
just as proud of you. You come
back to me. I love you son'.
I can't help to wonder if he is
still going to be proud of me.
I know I'm going to be coming
back to him, but it will be the
same way mom came back to us
2 years ago. I hope my wife- to- be
will tell our unborn child that his
daddy died, while protecting his
country. At this moment they are
reading the note that I left for them.
I'm sorry I didn't come back the
way I promised I would. But in
my parents' footsteps I wanted
to walk in. And in my mom's
footsteps I ended up dying in...

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
