    Jerritt's Time of Death

We went to the club at ten that night
and some girl and I started to fight.
We got kicked out and she got mad.
She had her boyfriend shoot you.
I cry so hard as I see you there.
I wanted to kill her as he almost did you,
but she just laughs and walks off.
Now the ambulance is here to take you to heaven.
I say over and over I'm sorry, but
you just say "I love you."
I say I love you too and please don't go.
You say as long as I love you
and never stop then you'll never die.
I smile with a tear in my eye. We are there.
You start convulsing and they start shocking you.
I pray to the Lord not to take you
and that I still need you and want you
but still nothing. You get worse
and the doctor tells me you have
a slim to none chance of surviving
By then, your mother shows up
and I tell her I am so sorry
and that if I didn't take you to that club
and get in a fight with that girl
then you wouldn't be here now.
She just looks at me with stone eyes
    and I just collapse.
I wake up to see you next to me and I smile
    and cry in happiness.
You tell me that I was out for 2 days
and all I could think of doing was to kiss you.
It was like magic all over again
You got out three weeks later
and I thank the lord everyday for
giving you a second chance at life.
You tell me you love me and I tell you
I love you too and please don't go.

Did this really happen? If it did, that's nuts.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
