    DAYBREAKS

Light comes to tiny eyes, and fresh air breathes a breath

First an early silence then a cry that denies death

Finally the hibernation ends and starts anew

With nothing more to cover us than the life-sustaining dew

Like some amazing treasure find we are looked upon with awe

The fresh pink wrinkles of the skin, the cries of wonder draw

First we gasp then we scream a piercing call of joy

Then cuddled and cherished like some new Christmas toy

Though we can’t yet speak we make our sounds as if we’ve something to say

Eyes can’t focus yet we can see the breaking of our day

Our very first we don’t recall but remember al the same

The day we appeared to everyone, the day our first breath came

    Thank You

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
