Betrayal
There was a time when things were new,
I thought That I could believe in you.
You spoke of love and tenderness,
I use to love your sweet caress.
I took the words you spoke to heart,
As you had promised we'd never part.
Time went by and things had changed,
My hopes my dreams you rearranged.
I put aside the ones so dear,
as days went by I'd shed more tears.
I'd beg and plead to get your love,
I'd pray to myself and the lord up above.
There wasn't an answer from the prayers I had said,
I should have known then that our love was dead.
I continued to hope our love would return,
and relight and ember from which our love burned.
There is no more hope, no dream of desire,
Of ever rekindling that once raging fire.
I've left and I've grown, and I'll never return,
To a love that's gone dead and embers won't burn.
The betrayals to much I can never go back,
It was love that I hungered and love that I lacked.
It's goodbye forever no more tears will I shed,
I'm happy and free and I'm rejoicing instead.
