    Poem Commentary

I love Summer, and wrote this poem trying my hand at incorporating nature and metaphors to convey this thought

August Spirit - Soul of Autumn

    Lances hot

    with violets dancing
    Targets of water

    and earthen bodies
    Happy August Spirit fired

    Renewed by the solar jousting

    Fields of wheat and barley

    and romance
    Nature's harvest

    wedding Summer
    Fertile breezes

    are gently sowing
    A soft voice hums…

    expectantly

    Time is always

    comet racing
    Bringing clouds of

    angry Winter
    Flying lances are broken

    then swallowed
    August Spirit

    in blizzard freezes

    Unhappy snowman

    Soul of Autumn
    Misery falls

    in orange and yellow
    Heavy coats of woolen worry
    Despair paints

    sidewalks and porches

    Elms and Maples

    hearts stripped naked
    Icicle hands

    chilling caresses
    Tiny sparks of

    August Spirit
    In every chimney roars

    Defiance

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
