    A REAL VETERANS DAY

    A REAL VETERANS DAY

    THE FLAGS THAT FLY HIGH

AS THE FLAGS THAT FLY LOW

    STILL THE PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING

    FIGHTING FOR A COUNTRY

    A COUNTRY THAT’S YOURS

    PEOPLE MOVING ON TO PLACES

    PLACES THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN

    THEY LEARN TO DO THINGS

    FOR THIS COUNTRY THEY’VE SWORN

    THEIR LIVES ALWAYS IN JEOPARDY

    AS THE FAMILIES ALWAYS WAIT

    AND OUR COUNTRY THAT MOURNS

    FROM THE WARS OF SENSELESSNESS

    YET A POWER THAT’S RELENTLESS

    NEVER ANY TRUE ANSWERS

    NO TRUE FUTURE

    JUST PEOPLE DYING

    WITH MANY MORE CRYING

    ALL THAT ARE TRYING

    SURVIVING

WE WILL TRY TO GO TO MARS

YET CAN NOT FIX THE WARS

    WE GIVE FAMILIES FLAGS

    AS WE HANG FLAGS

    AND WE PLANT FLAGS

BUT WHAT IS THE REAL CAUSE

    BECAUSE EVERYONE IS JUST PEOPLE

    LET THE VETERANS FLOW

AMONG THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY

    DOWN THE CANYON OF HERO’ES

LET ALL THE STATES PROVIDE A CANYON

AND LET THE WORLD SEE US AS ONE

    EVERY DAY THERE ARE WARS

AND EVERY DAY WARS ONLY LOSE

SO JUST STOP FOR A MOMENT

    THINK, HOPE, AND PRAY

SO WE LIVE THE HERE AND NOW

    AND REALIZE

    EVERY DAY IS VETERANS DAY

    EVERY VETERANS PAYDAY

A great poem that has real true meaning. Good luck to you! I am new on here and i am just checking some of the poetry out. My son was in the army for 4 years and overseas. He almost died and it reall upset me being a mother and that is my only son. I know the feeling of having a loved one over there. Armymom1025

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
