    Why Me?

Life is funny and seems unfair.
    Pain and sorrow everywhere.
Much of the poetry that I see,
is full of angst and misery.

So many peoples dreams are broken.
Words of love are never spoken.
    Only sadness fills their days.
Who can wipe their tears away?

It's said you harvest what you sow.
I know it's true, but bad winds blow.
Sometimes it's hard to see the way,
when your having a real bad day.

But as I sit here in my chair,
I'm happy and without a care.
Spirit has been so good to me.
The reasons why, I do not see.

For I've been mean and I've been bad.
My enemies failures made me glad.
So I am not a saint you see.
I'm still as human as can be.

I'm sorry for those who are suffering strife.
While I'm contented and have a good life.
But Spirit and I have made a pact,
where he provides the things I lack.

I in turn just sing his song,
and try my best to do no wrong.
It works for me as you will note.
Let Spirit steer and I'll row the boat.

What a wise and beautiful poem. You have a nice way of expressing something that we have all tried to express and share on this web site. I too have had troubles, but the universe has been good to me in many ways. I like that last line, it is so very Taoist. The universe steers each of us on our course, and if we just row the boat it will take us where we need to go. I have equated the Spirit with the universe, so I hope you don't mind. The "SECRET" is that we can also imagine where we'd like to be, and the spirit/universe will take us there just for the asking.

You are saying what I have been saying. So much pain on poetry.com. I think you have always been in control of your boat. Again (I love this and use it often) you've gone around and around and made the circle.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
