Sleepless

Sleepless

Restless;
a fitful sleep last night;
dreaming of you
just out of reach,
nothing feels right.

Awake;
night fills with sorrow;
I feel myself slipping
from inside your heart.
Will it hold any part come tomorrow?

Desire;
what we want is the same;
to love openly, love honestly,
with no fear of treason.
So who's to blame?

Misunderstood;
obstacles of understanding,
past betrayals, heavy scars.
Purest feelings thought a game;
mistaken for being demanding.

Sleepless;
waiting for the words
that make wrongs into rights;
my heavy heart becomes weary,
and though this dawn
sees not love's light;

for just one chance tomorrow's will,
I'd spend a million sleepless nights.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
