Ocean's Embrace
Falling from the sky,
I hit the ice cold water.
It closes over my head,
dragging me down into its depths.
I open my mouth to scream,
but I inhale the icy water.
I cough and fight for breath,
as the ocean pulls me deeper.
I touch the sandy bottom,
and realize I don't need air.
I'm no longer breathing,
but I seem to be just fine.
As I walk the ocean floor,
I see something I've only imagined.
A black darkness so deep,
I can't find my way.
I wander the water,
with no sense of time.
I see a glimmer of light,
it's not too far in the distance.
I trudge towards the light,
the water pushes me forward.
I drag my weary body onto the shore,
and hours pass me by.
I lift my head and survey the land,
nothing is familiar to me.
The plants and animals,
they're like nothing I've dreamed.
I wander the land for days,
never finding anything I know.
I'm confused beyond measure,
I don't know what to do.
I reach the ocean once again,
and it's then that I know.
I walk back into the water,
sink into it's depths once more.
Back where the water caresses me,
within it's ice cold embrace.
Where the darkness hides my flaws,
and no one judges me.
No one knows I'm there,
for I am hidden from them.
Invisible in the inky darkness,
unseen forever without fail.
