    He Sensed Defeat

    The Soldier pulled himself up
    to a sitting position,
    trying to breathe, choking instead,
    pain exploding in his head,
    his comrades dead,
    blood running red,
    emergency evacuation dim,
    while his emotions fled,
how he had managed to escape
the complete annihilation he could not imagine,
but he wasn’t going to waste time
questioning that small bit of good luck,
    he tried to stand,
    but his feet were stuck,
he saw several wounds on his feet,
then the enemy gazed in at him,
and that’s when he sensed defeat.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
