Dedication to Coach Alvarez
I lie awake in the sleepless night
I can't believe what today was like
The first I heard that you were gone
I knew it wouldn't be easy to move on
No one could understand
Why the Heavens took this man
What had he done to deserve that fate
Why did he have to leave that way?
You were liked by everyone
We were like your brothers and sisters
You treated us like daughters and sons
What did you have to die for?
You were too young to leave us empty handed
A shadow covers us all as we think of that man
You were not like everyone else here
You were different, special, we knew
I would give anything, my life
Just to be with you
But life doesn't turn out the way we want
And in the end what are we but lost
Cruel days we had that Sunday we heard
You weren't returning Monday at school
You were a great coach, one of the best we've had
I'm not mad, not sad,
But disappointed, in a way
That we never got to say goodbye
That Friday before you died
And left these hardened hearts behind.
I can't believe what today was like
The first I heard that you were gone
I knew it wouldn't be easy to move on
No one could understand
Why the Heavens took this man
What had he done to deserve that fate
Why did he have to leave that way?
You were liked by everyone
We were like your brothers and sisters
You treated us like daughters and sons
What did you have to die for?
You were too young to leave us empty handed
A shadow covers us all as we think of that man
You were not like everyone else here
You were different, special, we knew
I would give anything, my life
Just to be with you
But life doesn't turn out the way we want
And in the end what are we but lost
Cruel days we had that Sunday we heard
You weren't returning Monday at school
You were a great coach, one of the best we've had
I'm not mad, not sad,
But disappointed, in a way
That we never got to say goodbye
That Friday before you died
And left these hardened hearts behind.
