Battle of Sanity

Poem Commentary

I do hear voices, yet I am not sane. Do not judge me for what I hear, but for what I do.

Battle of Sanity

Not giving into the fear
That comes from all hearts
As this land cries
I will stand to fight

The wind at my heels
The sun low to the trees

I stand to fight
A battle that can't be won
A battle of the mind

My soul is not strong
My heart is tattered
The injustice all around
But I won't go insane

The battle of sanity
To stay alive
To keep control
As the demons enter
And try to destroy me

They are voices
That are in my head

I do not pray
To any God
For my sanity

If I go insane
It will be fine
For no one is hurt
Except for me

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
