Poem Commentary

just putting to verse my ideal dream 4th gen camaro...

" Camaro"

" Flat black Camaro"

Straight off the showroom, still factory fresh
not one scratch upon her, all shine and no mess
the keys change hands, now off to her house
oh what mods are instore, for this mighty mouse

Hear heart beat is strong, but will be much more
just as soon as Fed Ex, shows up to the door
New heads and intake, now the cam and exhaust
followed by a nine inch, he cares not the cost

Then one last package, almost too late
twin purple chrome bottles, with a high polished plate
gone is her stock hood, a sunnoco is worn
goodbye little wheels, the new mickeys adorn

The tailights, all smoked, and halo her eyes
off comes her stock color, the flat black a surprise
now off to the tuners, her new shoes are worn
with one last adjustment, a street fighter's born

Out of the shop, her tune set just right
she's prepped and all ready, for this saturday night
her fuel topped off, the time is now right
let her warm up, and off in the night

No race track is this, nor entry fee paid
people on both sides, of the asphalt fresh made
the burnout complete, and up to the line
both bottles open, to pressure the lines

Out of the pack, the distinctive whine
a black whipple cobra creeps up along side
no handshake is needed, the challeng's been met
it's now down to business, to see who's fastest yet

One young woman, still in her prime
walks out to the road and up to the line
confirming both cars are ready to go
off with her shirt, and on with the show

Out with the hole shot, and taking the lead
on comes the cobra, not slow is this steed
up along side her, and beginning to pass
then on come sthe first stage of that wonderfull gas

The playing field even, for now door to door
a second stage hits, with her pedal to floor
her nose lifted up, her RPM's climb
yet just off her bumper, that distinct whipple whine

Keeping her lead, this race quite a thrill
crossing the finish, good is her kill
exchanged the hand shakes, with a pat on the back
the look of disbelief, of this camaro flat black

You're poetry is worthy my friend. The subject matter is unique. I've not read anything like this on the site. To cut to the chase...I'd rather read one of your poems than watch any of those god awful Fast and the Furious movies. On a side note...I prefer the Trans am.

Oh my gosh. I love this poem. I know nothing about cars but you made feel like I was right there. At the race. That was awesome! Just wish I had a computer at home so I could show it to my husband.

now off to the tuners, her new shoes are worn with one last adjustment, a street fighter's born these lines were great and i also had a vision of cha cha setting off the race between the t birds and the leader of rival gang The Scorpions,in the movie Grease. good visionary :)

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
