YEAH, I'M BLACK
A descendant of the first Adam, so is all mankind
In the blood line of all men mashed like the grapes of wine
From Ham’s deep black to the light of Japheth
With the wisdom to know I must love myself
Born of the roots of Abraham, even after the scattering of tribes
Wanting to be closer to God than Nimrod tried
Still dodging traps that has most minds fried
Faced with being a modern day misfit with pride
“Yeah I’m Black”
Black like death with the overwhelming beauty of onyx
And also the red of sand but racially self-afflicted by phonics
At least that’s the perception that is shown indeed
When a man has to be incarcerated physically, to desire to read
Locked behind the shade with the inability to see
That I could really achieve if I just started to believe in me
“Yeah I’m Black”
Black like tar and can still pass the bar
If I get more concerned with my self than my money, my hoe and my car
Yellow as the meat in a peach with a bitter taste in my mouth
When the blackness around me blames the white man and the south
Cut it out, stop, look, listen and read
From the classified through the bible I’ll find what I need
If I channel negative into positive from greed to the hunger to succeed
With the love of self and family that could make me voluntarily bleed
When the man in the mirror is happy with what he sees
And praying that God makes my children better than me through me
“Yeah I’m Black”
In the blood line of all men mashed like the grapes of wine
From Ham’s deep black to the light of Japheth
With the wisdom to know I must love myself
Born of the roots of Abraham, even after the scattering of tribes
Wanting to be closer to God than Nimrod tried
Still dodging traps that has most minds fried
Faced with being a modern day misfit with pride
“Yeah I’m Black”
