Worth It

Worth It

Are you worth a breaking heart?
Did you know that from the start
You consumed me like a fire;
My every thought, goal and desire
was you.

Are you worth my troubled soul?
Anguished, I'm no longer whole.
A day without a word from you,
A downcast gloom, emptiness,
An eternity of lifelessness
waiting...

Am I worth anything to you?
The only one you love is you.
Your mind has wandered far from me.
My hurt follows me around
Like darkened shadows on the ground
hide light.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
