    Why can't you see me

    My hands are tied
    I cannot scream
but it is not ropes and knots
    that bind me
    It is my pride
    my insanity
    It keeps me under locks
    and on the edge
    all the time
    I try to move
    pain sears me
as it tries to keep me
from who I need to be
    help me
I am an animal in a cage
    but I am tame
    nobody sees me
    under this cloudy eyed mask
    help me
    I need a friend
    someone who understands
    a kiss on the cheek
    a hand to hold
    that this insanity
    won't lend to me
    why can it not see
    I am simply a child
but I am afraid to say
    afraid of rejection
    afraid of pain
    don't leave me alone
    but
    the truth is
    they don't see me
so how am I not alone
and all I can say without the pain is
    Why don't you see me

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
