Vanity

Vanity

That vampire of society
Which breeds on love and loyalty
The cause of man's diversity
Such is the curse of vanity

Vanity, vanity vanity

The absence of sincerity
Bitter pill, bitter pill of reality
The primrose path to irony
Of what I speak is vanity

Vanity, vanity, vanity

Bewitching gypsy of despair
Of her admiration - beware!
Mistress to wrath and tyranny
Those bearers of catastrophe

Like Earth's divided from the sea
It separates you, my brother, from me
She's the ballad of hypocrisy
Of what I speak is vanity

Vanity, vanity, vanity

I really enjoyed this one. You are absolutely right. Vanity is definately one of Man's uglier sins. You captured the essence so well with this poem. You are truly a gifted poet. Another remarkable piece.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
