My Sister

My Sister

Oh...my sister...
Oh...my sister...

She's a woman...
...hair the many colors of the good earth
Skin...
...so many shades, from shadows to light

She has eyes that shine....
...with the brightness of a setting sun
And a voice...
...that could raise even the meekest to might

Oh...my sister...
Oh...my sister...

She moves...
...like a gentle wave on an ocean
   ...touching the sands...
A beautiful, Black, regal woman...
...so proud her pride became mine

She's the other...
   ...part of my soul
She's my mother...
   ...more precious than gold
She's my lover...
   ...eternally...
She's my daughter...
   ...born to be free

She could look at me
   but through me
   for me and to me
My sister, so Divine

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
