Poem Commentary

Written: November 5, 1993. I was 15 and after a date rape I couldnt go through with an abortion. I ached over the decision and went home. A week later I miscarried and was then very confused..

Unborn Child

To the unborn child I never had, the trees are trembling and I am always sad. The times are tough, I was gonna put you through. But in time of need to learn and be true. I'm climbing up that ladder tio the sky, maybe someday in the future you may come true to me. I will teach you to climb the ladder to the sky, to start and learn for the future to come. Through the hard and easy times. There will be some times the ladder feels like it's falling down, but be strong and go forward high up the ladder to the sky...

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
